Carroll Electric Cooperative
Member Responsibilities
It's the small things that help the most and for Carroll Electric Cooperative, there are many small things that you can do that make our service better. Below are a few things that you can do to make our services more efficient, accurate and safe. If you have any questions about the items below, call (330) 627-2116.
Let Us Know When You Move
It is important that you notify the cooperative office when you plan to move. Please inform us when to disconnect your service or, if someone else is moving into your residence, transfer your account into the incoming party's name. Also, please give us your forwarding address so your final bill can be mailed to you at your new location. The amount of your membership and deposit, if any, will be credited to your final bill. Without your forwarding address, it will also be impossible to reach you in the future should you be eligible for a patronage capital credit refund.
Allow Us To Trim Your Trees
Maintaining clearance between trees and over lines is an ongoing program to help assure reliable service. Outages caused by trees in power lines can be reduced when our crews are permitted to trim or remove trees. Please help us by allowing for clearance of any right-of-way located on your property.
Provide Access to Co-Op Equipment
Make sure Carroll Electric has access to its equipment located on your property such as the electric meter, underground cable, pole or transformer. If you add a fence or landscaping, it should not prevent an employee from gaining access for service or maintenance. Do not add a room, patio or carport, which would cover underground lines or enclose your electric meter.
Use Standby Generators Cautiously
All standby generators must be connected through a double-throw switch that disconnects the service from Carroll Electric lines. Connecting a generator without a double-throw switch can be dangerous if your generator backfeeds current onto cooperative lines while crews work to restore power. Please notify the office if you install a standby generator.
Report Line or Service Problems
You can be helpful by reporting any conditions along cooperative power lines that may need attention. Call our office if you see any of the following:
- Broken or badly leaning poles
- Wires sagging too low
- Trees growing into the lines
- Broken insulators
- Sparks coming from a main line or transformer
- Grass fires burning poles
- Kids or unauthorized personnel inside substation facilities
- Damaged or unlocked ground level transformers
- Meter tampering or other theft of property
Pay Your Electric Bill Promptly
The money that you pay for your electric service is used to pay the cooperative's operating expenses. By paying on time, you help your cooperative meet expenses and avoid unnecessary costs. Should you have trouble paying your electric bills, please call our office and make payment arrangements.
