If your electricity should go off, first
check your main electrical panel to see if a fuse has blown or a breaker has
tripped. Blown fuses must be
replaced while breakers need only to be reset.
If the problem is not in your main panel, call a neighbor to determine if
other homes in the area have been affected.
If the problem is not within your home, or if several homes are without
power, then call Carroll Electric at 330-627-2116 or long distance
1-800-232-7697..
What We Need to Know
When you call to report the outage, please be prepared to give us the following information:
Be patient. Your service will be restored as soon as possible. If you report the outage to us, please do not call again. Others may need to report outages.
During the Outage
While the power is off, keep your refrigerator and freezer closed. According to the Cooperative Extension Service, food should keep for up to 48 hours. If the outage should be lengthy, arrangements should be made to store food at another location or dry ice should be purchased.
Leave only one light on to let you know when power is restored. Turn off everything else that was on when service was interrupted. This includes all large equipment such as a heat pump, air-conditioner, range and refrigerator. Turning them off prevents unnecessary load on our system when the power returns-load that could cause another outage.
When power is restored, turn on appliances and other equipment one at a time.
Always stay away from power lines on the ground. Do not attempt to remove trees, or limbs from lines. That’s our job!
Life Support Equipment
Some Carroll Electric members use essential life-sustaining medical equipment such as a respirator, infant heart monitor, etc. in their home. This equipment is so vital to the person’s well being that an interruption of electricity could pose an immediate threat to life.
If you or a member of your household requires such equipment, please contact our office immediately. It is very important to keep our records updated concerning these special needs.
These residences are given priority when services are reconnected. However, uninterrupted electric service cannot be guaranteed. It is the member’s responsibility to acquire a backup power supply (batteries, generator, etc.) if the nature of the medical equipment makes this a necessity.
*Note: Once we have been notified that you have a life-support equipment, we will keep it posted for six months. After six months, please notify us if the equipment is still in use. We would also appreciate a call from you if the equipment is removed or is no longer in use.
