Carroll Electric Cooperative
Load Management Program

You can control the cost of our power supply by participating in Carroll Electric Cooperative Load Management Program.

With your permission, and at no cost to you, CEC will install a radio-controlled load management switch for your electric water heater. This switch allows the cooperative to turn off your water heater by remote control whenever the demand for electric power is reaching peak conditions. The purpose is to reduce our electrical load to avoid setting a new peak.

Although these switches are normally activated during periods of extreme cold and windy weather conditions, they are sometimes activated during the summer.

Please note that switches are not shut off every day or evening. The switch is only activated when needed.

The switch is installed by the CEC free of charge. You will receive a $2 per month credit on your electric bill for allowing the switch to be installed on your water heater.

Currently, there is not a shortage of generating capacity. The load management program is conducted for economical reasons holding the line on demand-related costs and delaying the need for new generating capacity.

Demand Peaks can occur at any time during extremely cold or hot weather. Normally 5-9 p.m. and 7-11 a.m. pose the greatest potential for demand peak periods.

Participating in the load management program saves you and Carroll Electric money.
